Galgibag Beach – Goa

Yet another important “turtle nesting site” is located in an extremely pristine and serene beach in Goa known as Galgibag Beach. This beautiful beach is located in a small town called Canacona in the South Goa district. It also happens to be one of least crowded beaches in Goa with no shacks and only three restaurants located in close proximity. In addition, the sea alongside this beach is generally safe with lifeguards available in case of emergency.

How to Reach Galgibag Beach?

  1. By train:

The closest major railway station is located in Margao. The Madgaon Railway Station is well connected to most of the major cities and towns in the country. 

Stay with a local in their home

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach, the ideal starting point would be Margao which comprises of three routes. The three routes are as follows

  1. Via NH-66:

This route includes Margao Bypass SH-8, Mandopa Road, and finally the Agonda Beach Road.

      2. Via MDR-46 and NH-66:

This route includes Swami Chinmayanand Road, Margao-Quepem Road, and finally the Agonda Beach Road.

      3. Via MDR-49 Road

This route includes the Swami Chinmayanand Road, Deusua-Chinchinim Road, and finally Agonda Beach Road.

  1. By Air:

The nearest airport is located in Dabolim at a distance of 65 km. The Dabolim or the Goa International Airport is well connected to major cities and town in the country as well as to major international destination.

Climate and the best time to visit the Galgibag Beach

The climate this beach experiences during the summers which begins in March and ends in May is generally “hot and humid” with the mercury on an average rising to about 35 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoons is “heavy”. The winter which begins in December and ends in February are pleasant with the temperatures ranging from a maximum of 28 degree Celsius to a minimum of 21 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this picturesque and pristine beach is during winters from December to February.s

Things/activities to do

There are few things/activities located in and around this beach that is worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Talpona Beach:

A beautiful and extremely pristine beach called Talpona is located in close proximity to Galgibag. This beach is known for its picturesque beauty and serene environment and is worth visiting.

      2. Malikaarjun Temple

Is a temple located in close proximity to this beach. This temple is dedicated Lord Mallikarjun, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. In addition, this temple also comprises of 60 other Hindu deities, and was said to be constructed during the 16th century.

      3. Palolem Beach

Palolem Beach is an extremely popular beach located in close proximity to Galgibag. It comprises of white sand and provides a picturesque view of the sea. In addition, it is also known for its tranquil atmosphere.
