Honeymoon Beach, Goa

‘Picturesque beauty’ would be the best way to describe the Honeymoon Beach situated in Goa. Located at a distance of approximately about 7 Kms from Palolem on an island, this beach is surrounded by a green environment and the beautiful Arabian Sea. The beach is visible only at low tide and it is submerged during the high tide. To get to this beach one needs to ferry a boat from either Palolem Beach or Agonda. The name of the beach comes from the fact that it is visited by a large number of ‘honeymoon couples’. It is situated at a distance of 32.4 km (via MDR49) from Betul Beach.

1. How to reach Honeymoon Beach?

a. By Train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Margao. The Madgaon Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.

b. By Road:

To reach this beach one first needs to travel by road to Palolem, after which a boat service is required to eventually reach the Honeymoon Beach. So, there are a number of routes available from cities such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, and Ahmedabad to the Palolem Beach. They are as follows:

1. Via Bangalore:

If starting from Bangalore then the routes than can be used include NH-48 and Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway/Srinagar-Kanyakumari Highway. It takes 9 hours and 24 minutes using the NH-48 route while, it takes 11 hours 23 minutes using the Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway/Srinagar-Kanyakumari Highway route.

2. Via Mumbai:

If starting from Mumbai then routes that can be used includes NH-48 and NH-66 . It takes 11 hours and 25 minutes using the NH-48 route while, it takes 13 hours and 33 minutes using the NH-66.

3. Via Pune:

If starting from Pune then the routes that can be used includes NH-48 and NH-48 and NH-52. It takes 9 hour 21 minutes using the NH-48 while, it takes 10 hours and 50 minutes using the NH-48 and NH-52.

4. Via Surat:

If starting from Surat then the routes that can be used includes NH-48, NH-48 and NH-66, and NH-60 and NH-48. It takes 15 hours and 52 minutes using NH-48, 18 hours and 2 minutes using NH-48 and NH-66 while, it takes 18 hours and 45 minutes using NH-60 and NH-48.

5. Via Ahmedabad:

If starting from Ahmedabad the routes that can be used includes NH-48 and NH-60 and NH-48. It takes 19 hours and 50 minutes using NH-48 and it takes 21 hours and 55 minutes using NH-60 and NH-48.

c. By Air:

The nearest airport to this beach is located at Dabolim. The Goa International Airport is well connected to major national as well as international destinations.

d. By Water:

Once arrived at the Palolem Beach using road, train, or air, one must hire a boat service to reach the honeymoon beach. With regards to the service, a boat trip involving a single traveler cost about Rs 1,500 while if traveled in group it would cost about Rs 500 for a seat.

2. Climate and the best time to visit the Honeymoon Beach:

The best time to visit this “scenic” beach is during the winter season which begins in December and ends in February with the temperature ranging from a maximum 28 degree Celsius to a minimum of 21 degree Celsius. The summer season which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the mercury rising to a maximum of about 35 degree Celsius during this period. In case of the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September the rainfall received is heavy.

3. Things to do at Honeymoon Beach:

This beach is located on an island away from the mainland and does not provide for any activities to do. However, since it is located in a very secluded spot, and is surrounded by a beautiful green environment, it is ideal for a honeymoon couple who intend to experience romance in the presence of “tranquility” and nature’s beauty.
