Somnath Beach – Gujarat

The Somnath Beach is a picturesque beach located to the east of a town called Veravalin Gujarat. This extremely beautiful beach is named after the sacred Somnath Temple. It is renowned for its crystal clear water and beautiful white sand. In addition, this beach also provides for magnificent views of the “rising and setting sun”. Furthermore, a number of vendors selling fresh coconut water are found at this beach.

How to Reach the Somnath Beach?

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Veraval. The Veraval Railway Station is well connected to major cities and towns in the state.

If you intend to drive to this beach then the ideal starting points would beDwarka, Junagadh, and Jamnagar. The routes are as follows

  1. Via Dwarka:

There are two routes available, and they are via NH-51 and NH-27 and NH-51.

      2. Via Junagadh:

There are two routes available, and they are via NH-151 and via GJ SH-100.

      3. Via Jamnagar:

There are two routes available, and they are via NH-151 and GJ SH 26 and via GJ SH 229.

  1. By air:

The closest airport is located in Keshod. The Keshod Airport is well connected to cities such as Mumbai.

Climate and best time to visit Somnath Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in June is extremely “hot” with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 41 degree Celsius to a minimum of 24 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in July and ends in September is “heavy”. The winter season which starts in November and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 32 degree Celsius to a minimum of 10 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to enjoy the picturesque beauty of this beach is from November to February.

There are a number of major attractions located around this beach worth visiting. They are as follows

  1. Somnath Temple:

The Somnath Temple is one of the major tourist attractions located in close proximity to this beach. According to folklore, it was at the site of this temple that Lord Krishna was supposed to have been shot in the foot by an arrow. In addition, this temple is also known to possess Lord Shiva’s Jyotirlinga.

      2. Rudreshwara Temple:

The Rudreshwara Temple is yet another popular temple located in close proximity to this beach. This temple is renowned for its exquisite sculpture that is especially visible on the doorways and walls.

      3. PrabasPata Museum:

PrabasPata is a renowned museum located in close proximity to this beach. This wonderful museum comprises of fascinating artefacts, and also consists of remains of a temple previously located at the site of this museum.
