“Pond of angels” is what Apsarakonda Beach, the name of a scenic beach located in Karnataka literally means in the Kannada language. It is located in a town called Honnavar in the Uttara Kannada district. This extremely beautiful and pristine beach is renowned for a number major tourist attractions located in close proximity, and they include Apsarakonda Falls, UgraNarsimha Temple, and the MahaGanapati Temple. In addition, this beach also provides for magnificent views of the setting sun.

  1. By train:

The closest major railway station to this beach is located in Mangalore at a distance of 175 km. The Mangalore Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Chennai, Mumbai etc. Alternatively, the Udupi Railway Station located at a distance of 122 km can also be used.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be from Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi, and Honnavar.

  1. Via Bangalore:

There are three routes from Bangalore they are via NH-48, via Bangalore-Shimoga Road, and via NH-69.

      2. Via Mangalore:

There is only one route available from Mangalore it is via NH-66.

      3. Via Uduppi:

There is only one route available from Uduppi it is via NH-66.

      4. Via Honnavar:

There is only one route available from Honnavar it is via NH-66.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport to this beach is located in Mangalore. The Mangalore International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well some major destination in the Middle East. 

Climate and the best time to visit Apsarakonda Beach

The climate at this beach during summer season which begins in March and ends in May is extremely hot and humid with the mercury rising to a maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoons which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. The winter season which begins in December and ends in February is pleasant with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 34 degree Celsius to a minimum of 20 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is from December to February.

Places To Visit Around Apsarakonda Beach

There are a number of things/activities found around this beach that must be explored. A few of them are as follows

  1. Apsarakonda Waterfall:

Located in the vicinity of this picturesque beach is beautiful waterfall that descends from a height of about 50 feet into a natural pond. In addition, the magnificent view of the setting sun can also be observed by standing on top of this breath taking waterfall.

      2. UgraNarasimha Temple:

The beautiful UgraNarasimha Temple is located in close proximity to this beautiful beach. In addition, this magnificent temple is situated just behind the Apasarakonda Temple”.

      3. Pandava Caves:

With the vicinity of this beach lies a group of caves that according to folklore was used by the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. It is believed that while they were in exile that the Pandava brother’s used these caves as their residence.
