Kurumgad Beach – Karnataka

Located in close proximity to the Karwar city in Karnataka is yet another scenic and pristine beach called Kurumgad Beach. This beautiful beach is situated in the Uttara Kannada district. Apart from its serene environment this beach is also renowned for possessing stretches of clean white sand. In addition, it is also surrounded by beautiful palm trees, and also consists of sea water that is “greyish” in colour. Furthermore, it also provides for water sports just like many other beaches in the country.

How to Reach Kurumgad Beach?

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station is located in Karwar itself. The Karwar Railway Station is well connected via the Konkan Railway to major cities in the country such as Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, and Ahmedabad etc.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points are Margao, Panjim, Vasco Da Gama, Hubli, and Mangalore.

  1. Via Margao:

There is one route from Margao to this beach, and that is via NH-66.

      2. Via Panjim:

There are three routes from Panjim to this beach, and that is via NH-66, via Curchorem-Ponda Road, and NH-66, and via NH-748 and NH-66.

      3. Via Vasco Da Gama:

There are two routes from Vasco Da Gama to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and via Curchorem-Ponda Road and NH-66.

      4. Via Hubli:

There are three routes from Hubli to this beach, and they are via NH-52, via SH-46 and SH-34, and via Sirsi-Hubli-Belgaum Road and NH-66.

      5. Via Mangalore:

There is one route from Mangalore to this beach, and it is via NH-66.

Climate and the best time to visit Kurumgad Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in June is hot and humid with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 36 degree Celsius to a minimum of 30 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon from July to October is “moderate”. The winter season on the other hand which begins in November and ends in February is extremely pleasant with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 17 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beautiful beach is from November to February.

Things/activities to do

There are a couple of things/activities to do found in and around this beach. They are as follows

  1. Water related activities/sports:

A number of water related activities such as swimming, snorkelling, boat rides etcare very commonly witnessed at this beach. In addition, sports such as beach volley ball are also commonly observed.

      2. Narsimha Temple:

A temple dedicated to the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu i.e. Narsimha is located in close proximity to this beach on top of a hill. Furthermore, this temple is renowned for an annual yatra that is organised during the month of January, and which is attended by thousands of ardent devotees every year.

      3. Lighthouse:

A lighthouse located in the vicinity of this beach provides for magnificent and breath taking view of the entire coast.
