Thaikadappuram Beach – Kerala

Renowned for being “home” to the Olive Ridley Turtle species is a scenic beach in Kerala called Thaikadappuram Beach. This picturesque beach is located in close proximity to a town called Nileshwaram in the Kasaragod district. It is at this beach that an NGO i.e. non-governmental organization called “Neythal” operates a breeding centre of the rare Oliver Ridley Turtles species. In addition, this beach is also known to provide for magnificent views of the “setting sun”.

  1. By train:

The closest station to this beach is located in Kasaragod at a distance of 12 km. The Kasaragod Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach then the ideal starting points would be Mangalore, Kochi, Kannur, and Thrissur.

  1. Via Mangalore:

There are two routes from Mangalore to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and via Chattanchal-Melparamba Road and NH-66.

      2. Via Kochi:

There are two routes from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and via NH-544 and NH-66.

      3. Via Kannur:

There is one route from Kannur to this beach, and it is via NH-66.

      4. Via Thrissur:

There are two routes from Thrissur to this beach, and it is via NH-66 and via NH-966 and via NH-66.

The closest airport to this beach is located in Mangalore at a distance of 50 km. The Mangalore Airport is well connected to major cities in the country.

Climate and the best time to visit the Thaikadappuram Beach

The temperature experienced at this beach during the summer months which begins in March and ends in May  ranges from a maximum of 31 degree Celsius to a minimum of 23 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy” with the average annual rainfall of 3581 mm being recorded. Meanwhile, the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum 20 degree Celsius to a minimum of 12 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is from December to February.

Things/activities to do

The exquisite scenic beauty and tranquil environment of this beach make it an ideal spot for relaxation. Unfortunately, though there no things/activities to do found around this beach apart from a breeding center of the rare Olive Ridley Turtle species, which is definitely worth a visit.

Interesting facts:

This picturesque beach is located at a point where the Thejeswini River meets the Arabian Sea. In addition, this beach is known for its “serenity”, and is surrounded by beautiful palm trees.
