Thirumullavaram Beach – Kerala

Considered to be one of the “most attractive beaches” in South of India is the scenic Thirumullavaram Beach located in Kerala. This beautiful beach is located at a distance of 6 km from the city of Kollam. In addition, this beach is surrounded by beautiful coconut trees and a tranquil filled environment. Furthermore, this beach is ideal for swimming and sunbathing with no danger zones identified.  Additionally, this beach is also ideal for early morning walks.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in the Kollam city at a distance of 4 km. The Kollam Junction Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Jammu, Howrah etc.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram.

  1. Via Kottayam:

There are three routes available from Kottayam to this beach, and they are via NH-183 and NH-66, via NH-66, and via SH-9 and NH-66.

      2. Via Kochi:

There are three routes available from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via SH-40 and NH-66, and via SH- 15 and NH-66.

      3. Via Thrissur:

There are three routes available from Thrissur to this beach, and they are via NH-544 and NH-66, via NH-66, and via NH-544.

      4. Via Thiruvananthapuram:

There are three routes available from Thiruvananthapuram to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Kesavadasapuram-Venjaramoodu Road/Trivandrum-Killimanoor Road and NH-66, and via Trivandrum-Killimanoor Road.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport is located in Trivandrum at a distance of 68 km. The Trivandrum International Airport is well connected to major cities in the county as well as to international destination.

Climate and the best time to visit the Thirumullavaram Beach

The climate experienced at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is pleasant with the temperatures ranging from a maximum of 25 degree Celsius to a minimum of 32 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “moderate”. Meanwhile, the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “mild” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 25 degree Celsius to a minimum of 18 degree Celsius. So with the temperature throughout the year being “pleasant” this beach can be visited anytime. 

Things/activities to do

There are a couple of things/activities to do found in and around this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Njarazhcha Para:

A beautiful hillock called Njarazcha Para (meaning Sunday Rock) is located within the vicinity of this beach. However it is only during low tides that this beautiful hillock can clearly be seen from the shore.

      2. Scuba Diving:

The sea present alongside this beach is “shallow” thereby making it an ideal spot for scuba diving.

      3. Restaurants:

There are a number of restaurants available at this beach that provides for delicious local cuisine cooked using coconut and spices like cardamom, black pepper, cloves etc.
