Akshi Beach – Maharashtra

A secluded and an extremely romantic beach known as Akshi Beach is located in Alibaug. This scenic beach is situated in the Raigad district in Maharashtra. This beach is renowned for white sand, clean sea water, and is surrounded by a large number of Suru trees. Furthermore, this beach apparently connects to the beautiful Nagaon Beach in the south and has also been used as a location in several Bollywood films. In addition, this beach is also considered to be a “bird watcher’s paradise”.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Pen. The Pen Railway Station is well connected to Mumbai as well as Panvel.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Pune, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan.

  1. Via Pune:

There is one route to this beach, and it is via Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway/Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

      2. Via Mumbai:

There are three routes from Mumbai to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via NH-166A, and via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway.

      3. Via Navi Mumbai:

There are two routes from Navi Mumbai to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and NH-166A and via MH SH-104 and NH-166A.

      4. Via Kalyan:

There are three routes from Kalyan to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway/Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and via NH-166A.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport is located in the suburb called Ville Parle. The ChhatrapatiShivaji International Airport is connected to major cities in the country as well as to international destinations.

  1. By water:

The fastest mode of transport is via water. There are a number of catamaran/ferry services from Gateway of India to Mandwa where the closest jetty to this beach is located. In addition, ferry services from Rewas to this beach are also available.

Climate and the best time to visit the Akshi Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in July is extremely “hot” with the mercury rising to about 36 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in August and ends in October is extremely heavy. The winter season on the other hand which begins in November and ends in February is extremely pleasant with the mercury dropping to as low as 14 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter season from November to February.

Things to do at Akshi Beach

This beach apart from being renowned for its picturesque beauty is also known to be home to several migratory birds. Bird species such as Ruddy turnstone, Plovers, Oyster Catcher etc are commonly seen at this beach thereby making it an ideal spot for not only “bird watchers” but also genuine nature lovers and photographers. Furthermore, there are not many things/activities to do found at this beach.
