Ganpatipule Beach – Maharashtra

Considered to be amongst the most beautiful “white sand” beach in the Konkan region is the Ganpatipule Beach. This extremely picturesque beach is located in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Situated at a distance of 375 km from Mumbai this beach apart from its scenic beauty is also known for its rich flora that includes mangroves and beautiful coconut trees. In addition, this beach comprises of a number of food shacks and also provides for horse and camel rides.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Ratnagiri at a distance of 45 km. The Ratnagiri Railway Station is well connected to major cities and town that lie on the Konkan Railway Line.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Kolhapur, Mumbai, Pune, and Belgaum 

  1. Via Kolhapur:

There is one route from Kolhapur to this beach, and it is via NH-166.

      2. Via Mumbai:

There are two routes from Mumbai to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and NH-48.

      3. Via Pune:

There are three routes from Pune to this beach, and they are via NH-48, via NH-66, and via Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/ Mumbai-Pune Highway/Mumbai-Pune Expressway and NH-66.

      4. Via Belgaum:

There are three routes from Belgaum to this beach, and they are via NH-48 and NH-166, via Sawantwadi Road and NH-66, and via Hathkhamba-Goa Road.

  1. By air:

The closest major airport to this beach is located in Mumbai, The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international destination.

Climate and the best time to visit Ganpatipule Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is extremely hot with the mercury rising to about 38 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is heavy. On the other hand the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is pleasant with the mercury dropping to as low as 15 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter from December to February.

There are a couple of things/activities to do found at this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Adventure and water sports:

There are a number of adventure and water sport activities such as paragliding, motorboat rides, pedal boat rides etc that are available at this beach.

      2. Ganpati Temple:

A temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh is located in close proximity to this beach. This pilgrimage site is extremely popular in the region and attracts a large number of tourists every year.

      3. Food and shopping:

Local markets located around this beach sell household and decorative products that too at cheap rates. In addition, delicious Konkan cuisine that include delicacies such as ambapoli, phanspoli, fish curries, Kokamkadietc are available around this beach.
