Velneshwar Beach – Maharashtra

Surrounded by beautiful coconut trees and rock less sea water is an extremely picturesque and secluded beach called Velneshwar Beach. This beautiful beach is located in a village called Velneshwar situated at a distance of 70 km from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. In addition, this beach is surrounded by a number of beetle nut trees. Furthermore, this beach is ideally suited for outdoor activities such as swimming and sunbathing.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Chiplun at a distance of about 60 km from this beach. The Chiplun Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country via regular express and passenger trains.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach then the ideal starting points would be Kolhapur, Mumbai, Pune, and Ratnagiri

  1. Via Kolhapur:

There are two routes from Kolhapur to this beach, and they are via NH-166 and via NH-48 and Karad-Chiplun Road.

      2. Via Mumbai:

There are three routes from Mumbai to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway and NH-48, and via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway.

      3. Via Pune:

There are three routes from Pune to this beach, and they are via NH-48 and Umbraj –Chiplun Road, via MH SH 70 and NH-66, and via NH-66.

     4. Via Ratnagiri:

There are two routes from Ratnagiri to this beach, and they are via MH SH-4 and via SH-105.

  1. By air:

The closest major airport to this beach is located in Mumbai, The ChhatrapatiShivaji International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international destinations.

Climate and the best time to visit the Velneshwar Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is extremely hot with the mercury rising to about 38 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is heavy. On the other hand the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is pleasant with the mercury dropping to as low as 15 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter from December to February.

Things/activities to do

Apart from the pristine and scenic atmosphere that surrounds this beach which makes it an ideal destination for complete relaxation of mind, body, and soul there are not many things/activities to do found around this beach. Although, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in close proximity to this beach is quite popular. Apparently this temple is 1700 years old. In addition, an annual Mahashivratri fair celebrated around this beach in honour of Lord Shiva is extremely popular. Furthermore, activities such as swimming and sunbathing can be enjoyed at this beach.
