Vagator Beach – Goa
Aptly described according to Wikipedia as possessing “dramatic red cliffs looking down on the shore” is the Vagator Beach located in Goa. This picturesque beach is situated in the Bardez Taluka on the opposite bank of River Chapora. To the south of this scenic beach lies the famous Anjuna Beach, considered to be one of first hippie hotspots in Goa. Furthermore, in 2013 the Sunburn Festival (a renowned trance festival) was shifted to Vagator from the Candolim Beach.

- By train:
The nearest railway station is located in Thivim at a distance of 19 km. The closest major railway station is located in Margao at a distance of 57 km. The Margao Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.
- By road:
The ideal way to travel to this beach via road is from Margao. There are two routes available from Margao to this beautiful beach. They are as follows:
- Via NH-66
This route includes Margao and Arlem Bypass, Guirim, Mapusa-Anjuna-Chapora, and finally Vagator.
2. Via MDR44 and NH66
This route includes the Swami Chinmayanand Road, Margao-Ponda-Panaji, Farmaudi-Margao Highway Bypass Road, Quelossim, Guirim, Mapusa-Anjuna-Chapora, and finally Vagator.
3. By Air:
The closest airport located to this beach is in Dabolim. The Dabolim Airport is well connected to major cities in the country.
Climate and the best time to visit Vagator

The best time to visit this beach is during the “pleasant” winters which begins in December and ends in February with the temperature during this period ranging from a maximum of 28 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoons which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. The summer which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the temperature raising to about 35 degree Celsius maximum.

There are few places in and round this beach that must be experienced. They are as follows
- Chapora Fort:
The beautiful Chapora Fort located around this beach was built by the Portuguese. This fort (basically ruins) is located at an altitude and provides for breath taking views of the sunrise and sunset. In addition, this fort also provides for a beautiful panoramic view of the entire coast.
2. Anjuna Flea Market
The flea market located at Anjuna Beach in close proximity to this beach is extremely popular with tourists. This market is usually open on Wednesdays from morning to evening, and comprise of items such as earthen masks, mirrored bags, rugs, clothes, statues of Buddha, jewellery and electronics.
3. Local seafood shacks and restaurants
There are a number good quality shacks and restaurants located on this beach that serve excellent seafood delicacies. The food prepared in these shacks and restaurants is typically Goan in nature which includes the use of lots of coconut and tamarind. In addition, a Japanese restaurant called “Sakana” is also located in close proximity to this beach, and is also extremely popular.
4. Handicraft Stall:
A small handicraft stall that basically sells statutes of Buddha, Ganesh, Shiva, key chains, cups, and even selfie sticks is situated at this beach. The seller whose name is Akash hails from Agra, and manages the stall mainly from October to May.
5. Sunburn Festival:
The famous Sunburn music and dance festival was organized at the Vagator Beach in 2013, 2014, and 2015. It was in fact shifted over here from the Candolim Beach.
