Dona Paula Beach – Goa
A few scenes of the famous romantic Hindi movie “Ek Duje Ke Liye” is supposed to have been shot in a scenic and pristine rock beach located in Goa called Dona Paula. This beautiful beach is located at a distance of about 7 km from Panaji in the Dona Paula village, also known as “Lover’s paradise”. Apparently this village itself is named after Dona Paula De Menzes, the daughter of a Portuguese Viceroy who apparently committed suicide.

- By train:
The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Karmali. The Karmali Railway Station is located at distance of 15 km from this beach.
- By road:
If you intend to drive to Donna Paula then the ideal starting points would either be Mapusa or Panaji. The routes are as follows
- Via Panaji:
There are three routes from Panaji. They are as follows
1. Via Dr. Jack De Sequeira Road
This route includes Avenida J Silveira, Dr. Braganza Pereira Road, DayanandBandokarMarg, Dr. Jack De Sequeira Road, Jetty Road and finally Donna Paula Beach.
2. Via Jack De Sequeira and Jetty Road
This route includes DB Marg, OdlemBhat, Miramar, Caranzalem, Dr Jack De Sequeira, Jetty Road before eventually reaching the beach.
- Via St Inez Road and Dr Jack De Sequeira
This route includes Avenida J Silveira, St Inez Road, Miramar, Caranzalem,Dr Jack De Sequeira, Jetty Road and eventually the beach.
4. Via Mapusa:
There are two routes. They are as follows
- Via NH-66:
The route includes Duler-Marna-Siolim Road, DayanandBandodkarMarg, Dr Jack De Sequeira, Miramar, Jetty Road to finally the beach.
- Via NH-46 and MDR3
This route includes DulerMarna-Siolim Road, Guirim, Bambolim, Jetty, to finally this beach.
- By air:
The closest airport to the beach is the Dabolim Airport. The Goa International or the Dabolim Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as to major international destinations.
Climate and best time to visit Dona Paula
The best season to visit this beach rock is during the “pleasant” winter which begins in December and ends in February with the temperature during this time ranging from a minimum of 21 degree Celsius to maximum of 28 degree Celsius . The rainfall received during the monsoons which begins in June and ends in May is “heavy”. The summer months which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius being recorded.
Things/activities to do
There are several things/activities to do found around this beach. They are as follows
- Water Sports:
There exist a sports club on this beach called “Dona Paula Sports Club” that provides for water sports such as windsurfing, para-sailing, water-skiing, toboggan ski-biscuit, skibob, sports fishing, snorkeling, harpoon fishing, kayaking, and yachting.
2. National Oceanography Institute
The National Oceanography Institute was set up in 1960 and provides information about marine biology, and coastal/marine oceanography. In addition, this institute also consists of a Marine Biology Museum and Taxanomy Reference Centre.
3. Carbo Raj Nivas
The Carbo Raj Nivas also known as the Governor’s House is located in close proximity to the National Oceanography Institute. This Nivas is also home to the tomb of Donna Paula De Menzes. In addition, the Governor’s House also provides for picturesque view of the coastline and Aguada Fort.
4. Stalls:
In close proximity to this beautiful rock beach, are a few stalls that provide for handicraft products, hats, clothes for ladies, men, children etc.
