Astaranga Beach – Odisha
Astaranga Beach which literally means “colourful sunset” is an extremely picturesque beach located in the state of Odisha. This beautiful beach is situated in a fishing village called Astarangain the Puri district. In addition, to its scenic beauty this beach is also renowned for providing magnificent views of the setting sun. Furthermore, this beach also comprises of a small fish market that operates every morning. It also serves as a nesting place for the Olive Ridley Turtle species and these turtles can be seen especially during the winter season.

Climate and the best time to visit the Astaranga Beach
The maximum temperature at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is about 45 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “moderate”. On the other hand the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is extremely pleasant with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 18 degree Celsius to a minimum of 10 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is from October to February during winter.

- Sunset views:
This beach provides for magnificent views of the setting sun and has been aptly been named “Astaranga” meaning “colourful sunset” thereby providing for a perfect spot for good photography.
2. Olive Ridley Turtle nest:
This beach also serves as a “nesting” spot for the Olive Ridley Turtle species. These turtles can be seen at this beach especially during the winter season.

1. PirJahania Shrine:
In close proximity to this beach lies a popular shrine called PirJahania. This shrine is visited by both Hindus and Muslims alike. Apparently a “chadar” is offered by devotees in reverence of PirJahania.
Word of caution
There are many areas around this beach that comprise of quicksand and hence appropriate precautions must be taken while visiting this beach.
This beach is renowned for being the main fishing center of Puri. In addition, a renowned shrine known as Pir Jahania visited by Hindus and Muslims alike is situated in close proximity to this beach.
