Colva Beach – Goa

Located in a taluka called Salcete in South Goa at a distance of about 6 km from west of Margao is a scenic beach called Colva Beach. This beautiful white sand beach stretches for about 2.4 kilometres and is surrounded by beautiful coconut trees. It is also extremely popular with tourists, and is renowned for shacks, restaurants, pubs/bars, and for adventure/thrilling water sports. In addition, safety is a key feature at this beach with a lifeguard always on guard, and certain swimming spots in the sea flagged red depending on the risk factor involved.

How to Reach Colva Beach?

  1. By train:

The closest railway station to this beach is located in Karmali at a distance of 30 km. The Karmali Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Ernakulum, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to Colva Beach the ideal way would be to start from either Vasco Da Gama or Margao.

  1. Via Vasco Da Gama:

There are three routes from Vasco Da Gama. They are as follows:

      2. Via NH-566 Dabolim-Cavelossim Road:

This route includes MDR43, Dabolim-Cavelossim Road, Colva Beach Road, and finally to the beach.

  1. Via NH-566:

The route includes Utorda Beach Road, Dabolim-Cavelossim Road, Colva Beach Road, and finally to the beach.

  1. NH-566 and NH-66:

The route includes NH-566 and NH-66, Colva Beach Road, and finally the beach.

  1. Via Margao:

There are three routes available from Margao. The three routes are as follows

  1. Via Colva Beach Road

The route includes Swami Chinmayanand Route, St Joaquim Road, Margao-Ponda Highway, Panaji-Farmagudi-Margao Highway Bypass Road, Colva Beach Road, and finally the beach.

  1. ViaMargao-Ponda Highway/Panaji-Farmgudi-Margao Highway Bypass Road

This route includes Swami Chinmayanand Route, Margao Bypass, Margao-Ponda Highway, Farmagudi-Margao Highway Bypass Road, Colva Beach Road to finally the beach.

  1. Via Margao-Quepem Road

The route includes Swami Chinmayanand Route,Margao Bypass, Margao-Quepem Road, Malkamekar Road, PeddaKhareband Road, Mulgao, ColvaBeah Road, and finally the beach.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport is located in Dabolim at a distance of 68 km. The Dabolim or Goa International airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international airport.

Climate and the best time to visit Colva Beach

The best climate to visit the Colva Beach during the winter “pleasant” season which arrives in December and departs in February is pleasant with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 28 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21 degree Celsius. The summer months which begins in March and ends in May is ” hot and humid” with the average temperature recorded during this period being 35 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”.

Things/activities to do in Colva Beach         

There are several things/activities that are worth trying out at this beach. They are as follows

  1. Water sports/adventure activities

There are number of water sports activities available at this beach, and they include water scooter rides, jet skiing, speed boat rides, snorkeling, swimming, banana boat rides, motorboat rides, etc.  In addition, parasailing is also very popular at this beach.

      2. Shopping:

This beautiful beach consists of a number of shops that sell items such as colourful clothes, jewellery, fashion accessories etc.

      3. Shacks/Restaurants:

There are number of sea facing shacks and restaurants that provide for delicious Goan food as well feni, a traditional Goan drink. Apart from the great food these shacks and restaurant also provides for magnificent view of the sea. A popular shack named “Dominick’s” is located at this beach that provides for typical Goan cuisine and a variety of alcoholic beverage. In addition, according to the manager Matthew “We also provide a daily “Candlelight Dinner” service after sunset for our costumers”.

      4. Nightlife/Partying:

Similar to most of the beaches in Goa, this beach too possesses a vibrant nightlife. There are number of discos, pubs etc located in and around this beach that provide for whole night long parties. A few popular bars, restaurants, and pubs are as follows
