Comprising of a “tranquil environment and beautiful palm trees” is a picturesque beach in the Lakshwadeep Islands called Kavaratti. This beautiful beach is located in Kavaratti (capital of Union Territory of Lakshwadeep) at a distance of 400 km from the west coast of Kerala. In addition, to its exquisite natural beauty this beach also apparently comprises of 52 mosques. Furthermore, this beach is approximately six kilometres in length and one kilometer in breadth.

  1. By water:

There are a number of cruise services that are available from the city of Mumbai to Kavaratti. In addition, there are passenger ship services available from Kochi to this beautiful island. Although this service is not operational during the monsoon season.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Kochi in the mainland. The Kochi Railway Station is well connected to most major cities in the country.

  1. By air:

The closest airport to this beach is located in Kochi. The Kochi International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international destination.

Climate and best time to visit the Kavaratti Beach

The climate experienced at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is extremely “hot” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 35 degree Celsius to a minimum of 25 degree Celsius with a humidity of about 70-76%. The rainfall (1600 mm annually) received during the monsoon which begins in June and ends in September is extremely “heavy”. In the meanwhile the winter season which begins in November and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 20 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter from November to December.

Things to do and Places To Visit Around Kavaratti Beach

There are number of things/activities to do found at this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Ujra Mosque:

The Ujra Mosque is an exquisitely designed mosque located on this beach, and is a major tourist attraction. It was constructed during the 17th century by Sheikh Mohammad Kasim.

      2. Marine aquarium:

A marine aquarium comprising of a number of aquatic specieslocated around this beach is considered to another major tourist attraction. This aquarium is mainly renowned for displaying the “small shark”. In addition, aquatic animals such as octopuses are also displayed in this aquarium.

      3. Dolphin Dive Centre:

A centre providing courses for amateurs and professionals in scuba diving called “Dolphin Dive Centre” is located on this beach in close proximity to the marine aquarium. Furthermore, PADI certified scuba diving programs are offered at this centre.

      4. Water sports:

There are number of water sports such as sailing, kayaking, water skiing, and paddle boating available at this beach.
