“Secluded and serene” is the apt way to describe a scenic beach located in Kerala called Vallikunnu. This beautiful beach is situated in a village called Vallikunnu in the Malappuram district. Surrounded by coconut trees on all sides this beach serves as an ideal spot for relaxation. In addition, this beach also possesses an environment filled with tranquillity well worth experiencing. Furthermore, a popular beach resort called “NC Gardens” lies in close proximity to this beach.

  1. By train:

The closest railway station to this beach is located in Calicut at a distance of 50 km. The Calicut Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting point would be Kozhikode, Thrissur, Ernakulum, Kochi, and Coimbatore.

  1. Via Kozhikode:

There is one route from Kozhikode to this beach, and it is via Anganganadi-Kozhikode Road.

      2. Via Thrissur:

There are two routes from Thrissur to this beach, and it is via Thrissur-Kuttippuram Road and Tirur-Kadalkundi Road and via NH-66.

      3. Via Ernakulum:

There are two routes from Ernakulum to this beach, and they are via NH-66, and via NH-544.

      4. Via Kochi:

There are two routes from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and via NH-544.

      5. Via Coimbatore:

There is one route from Coimbatore to this beach, and it is via Kozhikode-Malappuram-Palakkad Highway.

Climate and the best time to visit the Vallikunnu Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 38 degree Celsius to a minimum of 23 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. Meanwhile the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 13 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this scenic beach is from December to February.

Things/activities to do  

There are couple of things/activities to do found at this beach. They are as follows 

  1. Beach activities:

This pristine beach is ideal for activities such as swimming, sunbathing walking, beach sport such as volleyball etc.

      2. Bird Sanctuary:

A beautiful bird sanctuary called the “Kadalundi” is located in close proximity to this beach. In addition, this bird sanctuary provides for a variety of bird species which can be truly enjoyed by tourists especially by “bird watchers”.
