Mandwa Beach – Maharashtra

Located at a distance of 12 km from a coastal town called Alibaug in Maharashtra is an extremely scenic and secluded beach called Mandwa Beach. This picturesque beach is situated in the Raigad district in a village called Mandwa which lies to the south of Mumbai city. Furthermore, this beautiful beach is renowned for some unique rock formations which can be observed during low tides. Additionally, this beach is also renowned for providing water sports facilities.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Pen. The Pen Railway Station is well connected to Mumbai as well as Panvel.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Pune, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan.

  1. Via Pune:

There are two routes from Pune to this beach, and they are via Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway/Mumbai Pune Expressway and via TamhiniGhat Road.

      2. Via Mumbai:

There are three routes from Mumbai city to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via MH SH 104, and via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway.

       3. Via Navi Mumbai:

There are three routes from Navi Mumbai to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via MH SH-104, and via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway and Pen-Khopoli Road.

      4. Via Kalyan:

There are three routes from Kalyan to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Mumbai Highway/Mumbai-Bangalore Highway/Mumbai-Pune Highway/Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport is located in the suburb called Ville Parle. The ChhatrapatiShivaji International Airport is connected to major cities in the country as well as to international destinations.

  1. By water:

The best way to get to this beach is via water. There are a number of ferry/catamaran services available from the Gateway of India to this beach. Although, these services are unavailable during the monsoon season.

Climate and best time to visit Mandwa Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in July is extremely “hot” with the mercury rising to about 36 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in August and ends in October is extremely heavy. The winter season on the other hand which begins in November and ends in February is extremely pleasant with the mercury dropping to as low as 14 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter season from November to February.

Things/activities to do

There are a couple of things/activities to do found in and around this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Mandwa Adventure Sports Centre:

Located at this beach is the Mandwa Adventure Sports Centre that provides for a number of water sports activities such as jet skiing, banana boat rides, surf boarding etc.

      2. RCF Jetty:

The RCF or the Mandwa Jetty located in close proximity to this beach provides for magnificent view of rising and setting of the sun.

      3. Kolaba Fort:

In close proximity to this beach lies a fort called Kolaba which is extremely beautiful to look at as well as a major tourist attraction situated around this beach.
