Mahabalipuram Beach – Tamil Nadu
Located on the eastern coast in Tamil Nadu is a scenic and charming beach called Mahabalipuram Beach. This beautiful beach is located in a town called Mahabalipuram in the Kanchipuram district. Situated at a distance of 60 km from Chennai this enchanting beach is surrounded by beautiful hills and a crystal clear sea. In addition, in close proximity to this beach lie temples built by the Pallava King Rajasimha.
How to reach the Mahabalipuram Beach
- By train:
The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Chennai. The Chennai Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Bangalore, Bhopal etc.
- By road:
If you intend to drive to this beach then the ideal starting points would be Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.
- Via Bangalore:
There are two routes from Bangalore to this beach, and they are via NH-48 and NH-75.

There are two routes from Chennai to this beach, and they are via E Coast Road and via Old Mahabalipuram Road/OMR Rajiv Gandhi IT Expy and E Coast Road.
3. Via Coimbatore:
There are two routes from Coimbatore to this beach, and it is via NH-79 and via Nagapattinam-Coimbatore-Gundlupet Highway and NH-79.
4. Via Madurai:
There are two routes from Madurai to this beach, and they are via NH-38 and via Chennai Theni Highway.

The closest airport to this beach is located in Chennai. The Chennai international airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as to international destinations.
Climate and the best time to visit the Mahabalipuram Beach
The temperature at this beach during the summer months which begins in March and ends in June ranges from a maximum of about 45 degree Celsius to a minimum of 30 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in July and ends in September is “heavy”. While the winter season on the other hand which begins in November and ends in February is extremely “pleasant” with mercury dropping to a minimum of about 17 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this place is during the winter season from November to February.

- Water Sports and sunbathing:
Water sports activities such as windsurfing, diving, motor boating are available at this beach. In addition, the pristine atmosphere available at this beach provides for an ideal spot for sunbathing.
Dakshinachitra is a heritage centre located in close proximity to this beach. At this centre traditional handicraft products from South India are frequently exhibited.
3. Shore Temple:
In close proximity to this beach is one of oldest temples located in South India. The Dravidian architectural style of this temple is the unique feature of this temple and the reason why is this Hindu shrine is a worth visit.
4. Five Rathas:
Five monolithic temple constructed using different styles is located around this beach. The formation of the five temples coming together is known as Pancha Pandava.
Mahabalipuram Beach is also referred to as Mamallapuram. In addition, to relaxation under the “sun and sand” this beach also provides a tourist with both historical significance as well as genuine picturesque beauty.
