Thalikulam Beach – Kerala
Considered to be the “best beach tourism destination” in Kerala in 2010 by the state tourism department is the picturesque Snehatheeram Beach. This extremely scenic beach is located in a small village called Thalikulam Beach in the Thrissur district. This beach apart from its scenic beauty provides for magnificent views of the setting sun. In addition, this beach is being maintained by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation i.e. KTDC.

How to reach the Thalikulam Beach

- By train:
The nearest railway station is located in Thrissur at a distance of about 16km. The Thrissur Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.
- By road:
If you intend to drive to this beach then the ideal starting points would be Guruvayur, Thrissur, Ernakulum, and Kochi.
- Via Guruvayur:
There are three routes from Guruvayaur to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Angadithazham-Kavla Road and NH-66, and via Chavakkad-Kanjani Road.
2. Via Thrissur:
There are three routes from Thrissur to this beach, and they are via ThrissurKanjaniVadanappally Road, via Kodungallur-Shornur Road and CherpuThriprayar Road, and via Kodungallur-Shornur Road and Ammadam-Peringottukara Road.
3. Via Ernakulum:
There are three routes from Ernakulum to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via NH-544, and via NH-544 and SH-61.
4. Via Kochi:
There are three routes from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via NH-966A and NH-66, and via NH-544.
Climate and the best time to visit Thalikulam Beach
The climate this beach experiences during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is “extremely hot” with the mercury rising to about 38 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in July and ends in September is extremely “heavy”. The winter which begins in December and ends in February is “mild and pleasant” and ranges from a maximum of 30 degree Celsius and minimum of 22 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beautiful beach is from December to February.
Things/activities to do
There are few things/activities found around this beach that is worth exploring. They are as follows
- Children’s Park:
There is a children’s park inclusive of all facilities located in close proximity to this beach. This park includes a fee of Rs 5 for a child and Rs 10 for an adult.
- Aquarium:
An aquarium consisting of a variety of marine species is located in close proximity to this beautiful beach.
- Restaurant:
A restaurant called Naalukettu serving typical Thrissur sea food is located around this beach and is extremely popular with tourists.
