Kalpeni Beach – Lakshwadeep

Measuring about 3 km in length and 594 km in breadth is a pristine and scenic beach in Lakshadweep called Kalpeni. This picturesque beach is located in the Kalpeni Island. Surrounded by beautiful coconut trees and crystal clear blue sea water this beach serves as an ideal relaxation spot. Apart from its scenic beauty, this beach is also renowned for a number of water-related adventure activities.

 How to reach the Kalpeni Beach

  1. By water:

There are a number of cruise services that are available from the city of Mumbai to Kavaratti and then from Kavaratti to Kalpeni. In addition, there are direct cruise services from Agatti Island to this beach.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Kochi. The Kochi Railway Station is well connected to most major cities in the country.

  1. By air:

The closest airport to this beach is located in Kochi. The Kochi International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international destination.

 Climate and the best time to visit the Kalpeni Beach

The climate experienced at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is extremely “hot” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 35 degree Celsius to a minimum of 25 degree Celsius with a humidity of about 70-76%. The rainfall (1600 mm annually) received during the monsoon which begins in June and ends in September is extremely “heavy”. In the meanwhile the winter season which begins in November and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 20 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this beach is during the winter from November to December.

Things/activities to do

There are number of things/activities to do found at this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Water Sports:

There are a number of water sports such as kayaking, cruising via sail boats, and snorkelling available at this beach.

      2. Moinnuddeen Mosque:

Located on the southern part of this beach is the Moinnudden Mosque. Renowned for its exquisite architecture that includes the use of old Mangalore tiles this mosque was built in honour of a saint called Moinnuddeen.

      3. Shopping:

A number of local handicraft items and wood work items are sold in a shopping centre located in close proximity to this beach. In addition, good quality garments are also sold around this beach.
