Renowned for its tranquillity and picturesque beauty is the Neendakara Beach in Kerala. This beautiful beach is located at a distance of 8 km from the Kollam city. In addition, this beach is also extremely pristine and hence attracts a large number of tourists. Furthermore, the magnificent sight of the joining of Lake Ashtamudi into the Arabian Sea as well of the setting sun can be witnessed at this beach.

How to reach the Neendakara Beach

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in the Kollam city at a distance of 4 km. The Kollam Junction Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Jammu, Howrah etc.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram.

  1. Via Kottayam:

There are three routes from Kottayam to this beach, and they are via NH-183 and NH-66, via NH-183, Harippad-Edathuva Road/NedumudyKruvata Road and NH-66, and via NH-66.

      2. Via Kochi:

There are two routes from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66 and via SH-15.

      3. Via Thrissur:

There are three routes from Thrissur to this beach, and they are via NH-544 and NH-66, via NH-66, and NH-544.

      4. Via Thiruvananthapuram:

There are three routes from Thiruvananthapuram to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via Kesavadasapuram-Venjaramoodu Road/Trivandrum-Kilamanoor Road and NH-66 and via Trivandrum-Kilimanoor Road.

  1. By air:

The nearest airport is located in Trivandrum at a distance of 68 km. The Trivandrum International Airport is well connected to major cities in the county as well as to international destination.

Climate and the best time to visit Neendakara Beach

The climate experienced at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is pleasant with the temperatures ranging from a maximum of 25 degree Celsius to a minimum of 32 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “moderate”. Meanwhile, the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “mild” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 25 degree Celsius to a minimum of 18 degree Celsius. So with the temperature throughout the year being “pleasant” this beach can be visited anytime.

Things/activities to do

Since this beach is located in a secluded area and has not been developed there are not many things/activities to do. Although there is the Neendakara Bridge which provides for the bird’s eye view of the joining of Lake Ashtamudi into the Arabian Sea, which is very beautiful. Additionally, this beach is also renowned for its fishing harbour and marine related businesses and hence silhouetted Chinese fishing nets are commonly observed at this beach.
