Considered to be “The longest drive in beach” in India is the extremely picturesque Muzhappliangad Beach located in Kerala. This scenic beach is located in between Thalassery and Kannur and is parallel to National Highway-66 i.e. NH-66. Apart from its scenic beauty it is also renowned for black rocks and is surrounded by beautiful coconut trees.In addition, blue mussel, a popular seafood delicacy in this region is found in abundance at this beach. Furthermore, this beach is also considered to be “paradise for bird watchers”.

  1. By train:

The nearest railway station to this beach is located in Kannur. The Kannur Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Jaipur etc.

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting points would be Udupi, Mangalore, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, and Bangalore.

  1. Via Udupi:

There is one route from Udupi to this beach, and it is via NH-66.

      2. Via Mangalore:

There is one route available from Mangalore to this beach, and it is via NH-66.

      3. Via Kozhikode:

There is one route available from Kozhikode to this beach, and it is via NH-66.

      4. Via Coimbatore:

There is one route available from Coimbatore to this beach, and it is via Kohzikode-Malappuram-Palakkad Highway and NH-66.

      5. Via Bangalore:

There are two routes from Bangalore to this beach, and they are via NH-275 and via NH-948.

  1. By air:

The closest airport to the beach is located in Calicut. The Calicut International Airport is well connected to major cities in the country as well as international destinations.

Climate and the best time to visit Muzhappliangad Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 38 degree Celsius to a minimum of 23 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. Meanwhile the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 13 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this scenic beach is from December to February.

There are few things/activities to do found on this beach worth exploring. They are as follows

  1. Swimming:

The sea located alongside this beach is shallow making it ideal for swimming and thereby a “swimmer’s paradise”.

      2. Bird watching:

A number of birds belonging to different breeds flock to this beach during different seasons. As a result of which this beach serves as an ideal “bird watcher’s paradise”.

      3. Adventure sports:

A number of adventure sports such as parasailing, paragliding etc are available at this beach.
