Vakkad Beach – Kerala

Located in close proximity to a town called Ponnani in Kerala, is an extremely scenic beach called Vakkad. This beautiful beach is located in the Malappuram district. In addition, it is from this beach that the magnificent view of the joining of the Tirur River with the Arabian Sea can be observed. Furthermore, this beach is also renowned for being “home” to several migratory birds.

  1. By train:

The closest railway station to this beach is located in Calicut at a distance of 50 km. The Calicut Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country.

  1. By road:

If you intend to drive to this beach the ideal starting point would be Kozhikode, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kochi, and Coimbatore.

  1. Via Kozhikode:

There are three routes from Kozhikode to this beach, and they are via Tirur-Kadalundi Road, via Calicut Road, and via NH-66.

      2. Via Thrissur:

There are three routes from Thrissur to this beach, and they are via Thrissur-Kuttippuram Road, via ThrissurKuttippuram Road and Tirur-KuttippuramRoad and via NH-66.

      3. Via Ernakulum:

There are three routes from Ernakulum to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via NH-544, and via NH-544 and Tirur-Kuttippuram Road.

      4. Via Kochi:

There are three routes from Kochi to this beach, and they are via NH-66, via NH-544, and via NH-544 and NH-66.

      5. Via Coimbatore:

There are three routes from Coimbatore to this beach, and they are via Kozhikode-Malappuram-Palakkad Highway, via Palakkad-Ponnani Road, and via NH-544.

Climate and the best time to visit the Vakkad Beach

The climate at this beach during the summer season which begins in March and ends in May is “hot and humid” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 38 degree Celsius to a minimum of 23 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. Meanwhile the winter season which begins in December and ends in February is “pleasant” with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 29 degree Celsius to a minimum of 13 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this scenic beach is from December to February.

Things/activities to do

There are couple of things/activities to do found at this beach. They are as follows

  1. River Tirur:

The view of the River Tirur flowing through this beach into the Arabian Sea is absolutely beautiful and soothing to the eyes, and must be experienced.

      2. Bird watcher’s paradise:

This beach is apparently “home” to several beautiful migratory birds, and hence a “haven” for bird watchers.
